KENNEWICK — The Wa-Hi Blue Devils picked up their first win of the young season with a 3-1 victory over Mid-Columbia Conference foe Kennewick Thursday in girls soccer.
The Blue Devils (1-1) fell to non-league opponent Moses Lake Tuesday, 2-1.
Wa-Hi opened scoring against Kennewick in the 20th minute with a Kiana Molitor header over the Kennewick keeper.
Kennewick evened the score in the 25th minute, but Wa-Hi pulled ahead for good when Viri Ibarra knocked in a Bridgit Lyons cross in the 30th.
The Blue Devils added an insurance goal when Ruby Salgado scored on a cross that bounced around in the Kennewick penalty box before the Lions mishandled the ball and tapped it in.
“We played great,” Wa-Hi coach Jesse Cruz said. “We’ll just continue to work on little things, like being more aggressive and closing down. Little things that will be a big problem later for us.
“We’re only through 1-of-16 in (MCC) play,” Cruz said.
The Blue Devils play Southridge Saturday in Kennewick at 11 a.m.
