WALLA WALLA — Walla Walla Community College avenged an earlier five-game loss to Umpqua Thursday night in just three games, 25-22, 25-17 and 25-22 in non-league volleyball.
The Warriors (5-2) fell to Umpqua on Friday, Aug. 31, in the Chemeketa Tournament in Salem, Ore.
“Umpqua is a quality team,” WWCC coach Tim Toon wrote in an email. “Last weekend, they had some impressive wins over powerhouse programs — include a 5-game win against us.”
Desi Nielson led WWCC with 14 kills and three blocks.
Courtney Cosdon had 35 assists over the three games and 11 digs.
Jess Smith picked up 18 digs and was “steady, steady, steady,” Toon said.
Reese Amy slammed 11 kills while Renee Baumann contributed nine more and Taylor Lancast had five kills.
“I am pleased that we defended out home court and came out with this convincing win,” Toon said. “I was a little worried playing this match coming off a huge win against Spokane last night.”
The Warriors host a tournament today and Saturday featuring 10 schools from the area in an East-South format. Each school will play five matches. A full schedule can be found at website bit.ly/QqiPI0 .
“We are seeing different players lead us every match,” Toon said. “If we can get all the players on the floor playing great at the same time, we will be one of the elite teams in the NWAACC.”
