Whitworth proves inhospitable to Wolves


SPOKANE — Walla Walla University’s women’s volleyball record slid to 0-5 here Thursday as host Whitworth University dominated the Wolves 25-8, 25-11, 25-3 in the opening round of the Whitworth Classic.

The Pirates evened their season record at 2-2.

Haley Stinson recorded three kills and 16 total attack points to pace the Wolves at the net. Kelsie Schafeer finished with nine assists, Courtney Zaro contributed 10 digs and Kara Moon was credited with a pair of blocks.

For Whitworth, Briauna Stadeli led with 10 kills and Jalana White added nine kills and 22 attack points. Maddye Dinsmore finished with 21 assists, Abi Hedlund chipped in with four serving aces and Nicole Leonard and Whitney Santos chalked up nine digs each. Stadeli and White totaled two blocks each

Tournament action continues here today and Saturday, with WWU scheduled to play matches today at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
