Mac-Hi crushes 5A Redmond, 11-0

REDMOND — Alex Saldana scored four first-half goals here Friday afternoon as Mac-Hi opened its 2012 boys soccer season with an 11-0 rout of Oregon Class 5A foe Redmond.

The Pioneers, a Class 4A school, led 9-0 at halftime.

Moises Manon and Cristian Torres kicked two goals apiece for Mac-Hi while Rafael Villagomez, Gerardo Robles and Neftaly Cazarez added one each.

“In the last 15 minutes of the first half and in the entire second half, we played a lot of possession (soccer),” Mac-Hi coach Jose Garcia said. “They (Redmond) are pretty young. They gave us a fight. They challenged us a little bit. They got a couple of shots on goal, but we did not allow them many shots.”

Goalies Saul Ortiz and Mauricio Gomez combined on the shutout. Ortiz started between the pipes and was replaced by Gomez at the beginning of the second half.

Mac-Hi hosts The Dalles Tuesday at 4 p.m.
