Weston-McEwen finds mixed results at volleyball tourney


HEPPNER — Weston-McEwen fought to mixed results during the Heppner volleyball tournament Saturday.

The TigerScots split pool play 3-3 before falling in straight sets in a best of three match against Dufur.

“We were playing the same size schools most of the day,” W-M coach Shawn White said. “It was good competition all day and came after and got us today.”

The TigerScots won two games against Cove, 25-13 and 25-13. Powder Valley defeated Weston-McEwen, 25-23 and 25-21. Culver defeated the TigerScots 25-11 before falling 25-22.

Weston-McEwen fell to Dufur 25-22 and 25-17 to open bracket play.

Taryn Coffman scored 63 assists and had five kills.

Molly von Borstel led with 32 kills and added 37 digs.

Lacey Kuehn smacked nine kills, Keegan Sheperd had 13 and Melanie Sederburg contributed 15.

Dannie Dearing picked up 19 digs and Melina Baker had five kills.

Natalie Arnold was 32-for-32 in service, with five aces and 19 digs.

W-M (4-2) plays DeSales Tuesday at 7 p.m.
