DAYTON — A Dayton man is in jail after being charged with two burglaries in Columbia County in August.

Delbert Benson, 33, was initially arrested Sept. 1, when he was found in possession of a stolen trailer. According to officers, he claimed he found the trailer next to a road in Garfield County. Benson was initially charged with one count of possession of stolen property.

During a search of Benson’s home in Dayton on Tuesday, Columbia County Sheriff’s deputies discovered numerous additional stolen items.

Benson is alleged to have stolen a pellet gun from a shop on Lower Hogeye Road in Columbia County on Aug. 19. He is also charged with burglarizing a home and shop on Kellogg Hollow Road, north of Dayton, on Aug. 30. Numerous tools and pellet guns, which were stolen from that location, were found at Benson’s home.

On Wednesday, Benson was charged by the Columbia County prosecutor with seven additional counts of burglary, theft and possession of stolen property. In addition, he has been charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, due to a previous conviction in North Carolina in 2004.

Benson was arraigned on the additional charges on Thursday. His bail has been set at $35,000.
