Waitsburg-Prescott boys 4th at Hermiston cross country invite

HERMISTON — The Waitsburg-Prescott boys finished fourth out of seven teams at the Runners Soul XC Fest at Sandston Middle School in Hermiston, Ore., Saturday.

Senior Seth Deal led the way with a time of 16 minutes and 40 seconds in the 5 kilometer race, good enough for third place.

“Seth Deal had a really good race in getting third place,”W-P coach Joanna Lanning said. “He wasn’t particularly happy with the performance, but he trained hard all summer. I think he lost his legs due to that hard training.”

Freshman Tewedros McDowell was the next-best finisher for W-P, coming in seventh with a time of 17:46.

E.J. Meserve finished 28th in 19:40. Jacob Dingfield took 45th in 21:15, Corey Braxton 50th in 22:14.

“I was really encouraged by the performances at 1 in the afternoon and in the 95-degree heat,” Lanning said.
