BOARDMAN — Veronica Garcia’s four goals was enough to beat the Riverside Pirates, 4-3, Tuesday afternoon, as Mac-Hi picked up its first victory of the year in girls’ soccer.
Three of Garcia’s goals were assisted and one was unassisted. Niomie Martinez assisted on a goal. Also making great passes and contributing assists were Astrid Hernandez and Gabby Hernandez.
Mac-Hi (1-2-1) was coming off a 5-1 defeat to Redmond.
“It was like a completely different team out there today for us,” Mac-Hi coach Martin Martinez said. “We played way better than we did last game. We had good crossing passes and good communication today.”
The Pirates scored on their first shot on goal.
Mac-Hi tied it at 1 but Riverside retook the lead, 2-1, with 20 minutes remaining in the first half.
Garcia struck for two goals in the last three minutes of the first half to give the Pioneers a 3-2 lead at the break.
