MILTON-FREEWATER — The Pioneers got two goals from Salvador Saldana and defeated The Dalles-Wahtonka Tuesday afternoon, 4-2, in boys’ non-league soccer. The Dalles led 1-0 at halftime before the Pioneers mounted a comeback.
“They (The Dalles) really outplayed us that first half,” Mac-Hi coach Jose Garcia said. “The Dalles kept better possesion of the ball and scored.”
“We had to readjust after the half and start attacking more.”
The first two Mac-Hi goals came on penalty kicks. Juan Pablo Martinez cashed in on the first opportunity to score and Alex Saldana converted the second opportunity to give the Pioneers the 2-1 lead.
Salvador Saldana scored the third and fourth goals. First, taking a corner kick and booting it in from 30 yards away.
Next he slammed a header in from the front of the goal.
The Dalles poked in another score with time running down, but by then it was for naught.
The Pioneers (2-0) play again at Baker/Powder Valley in a Greater Oregon League Conference match Saturday, Sept. 22.
