SALEM — A man who killed his family in May also killed a stranger walking in the neighborhood, investigators say.
In a summary of the case that ended with the suicide of Nikolay Lazukin, the Marion County District Attorney’s Office said he stomped and beat Devin Matlock with a bat just blocks away from the family’s home.
The investigation determined that Lazukin shot his wife and two children, using a loaf of bread as a silencer, and suffocated a baby before setting the home on fire.
Matlock, 21, was killed about 2 a.m. May 22, shortly after he had watched a movie with friends and left.
He killed his 26-year-old wife and Angelica Lazukin, 3, and Zoe Lazukin, 22 months, with gunshots to the head and suffocated Sulamia Lazukin, 4 months.
