ATHENA — Weston-McEwen defeated cross-border foe DeSales in straight sets Tuesday, 25-7, 25-12 and 25-7.
“We kept our focus and served well,” W-M coach Shawn White said. “The girls were consistent and executed well.”
Molly von Borstel led the TigerScots with 26-of-26 serving, three aces and six kills. Melina Baker was 10-for-11 from the service stripe.
Taryn Coffman scored 16 assists. Lacey Kuehn and Keegan Shepard added five kills apiece.
“Our first game of the season was quite shaky,” DeSales coach Hailee Cole said, “but I know we’ll learn from it and come out of it stronger and better.
“Weston-McEwen is a very talented team, and gave us a bit of a wake up call as to where we are and what we need to be working toward.”
Allison Wujek led the Irish with four kills. Claire Conley and Hannah Leahy tied for three kills each. Ashton Montgomery and Alyssa James had a pair of slams each. Elizabeth Ruthven and Brittany Lemons contributed a kill each.
The Irish were 23-for-28 as a team from the service line and had seven digs.
Weston-McEwen (5-2) visits Imbler Thursday for a dual meet against Imbler and Elgin at 5 p.m.
The Irish travel to Touchet Thursday at 6 p.m.
