WALLA WALLA — Wa-Hi’s girls soccer team defeated Mid-Columbia Conference rival Hanford, 3-2, Tuesday after battling through two scoreless overtime periods and taking the match in penalty kicks, 5-3.
The victory improves Wa-Hi to 2-1 in league and 2-2 overall.
Kiana Molitor scored the first goal for Wa-Hi (2-1 in league, 2-2 overall) on a Marie Arceo assist.
Hanford’s Monica Rowley provided the equalizer.
Wa-Hi’s Lexie Swenson made it 2-1 on a Maggie Callan assist.
The Falcons tied it with a last-minute penalty kick goal to send the match into extra minutes and, eventually, penalty kicks.
“This is the best game that I’ve seen these girls play,” Wa-Hi coach Jesse Cruz said. “We did everything that we’ve been practicing. We moved the ball so well, and we were communicating really well. We are really doing all of the right things. We’ve just got to keep it going.”
The Blue Devils visit Pasco Saturday at 1 p.m.
