PRESCOTT — Waitsburg-Prescott defeated Dayton 11-1 Wednesday afternoon in Southeast 2B soccer behind five goals and an assist from forward Lino Diaz.
W-P (1-0) had 38 shots on goal in the victory.
“This was the first time we played in three weeks, so we were more than needing the game,” W-P coach Jay Potts said. “Everyone got to play. All of our subs played, it was a good showing for us. We figured out what we need to work on still.”
Diaz opened scoring on an assist from Johnny Escalante at the 1:02 mark to key the rout.
Fernando Torres-Escalante had three goals, Lino Diaz had two more, and Oscar Vilavazo scored unassisted before the half to put W-P up 7-0 at halftime.
Diaz had two more goals after the break in a quick fashion, one assisted by Rodrigo Gonzales in the 49th minute and one on a penalty kick in the 51st.
Johnny Escalante wrapped two goals around a Dayton score in the 68th minute to finish W-P scoring.
W-P plays No. 4-ranked Class 2B St. George in Spokane Saturday at noon.
