TOUCHET — After dropping the first set 25-13, Touchet rallied to defeat DeSales 25-16, 25-18, 25-19 here Thursday for the Indians’ first victory of the young volleyball season.
The Indians will take a 1-2 record into tournament action Saturday in Waitsburg. DeSales, now 0-2 on the season, will also participate in the Waitsburg-Prescott tournament.
“I am so happy with the girls,” Touchet coach April Miller said. “Touchet has had a history to overcome. Tonight they pressed through and played their hearts out, and now they know what they can do.
“DeSales had some great servers and played a good defense,” Miller added. “There were a few amazing rallies. It was quite a battle, and everyone played hard.”
Kristen Warner had nine kills and eight digs for the Indians. CierraJo McKeown led the team with 14 assists and 10 digs. McKeown, Rachel Miller and Chelsea Dowty chipped in with two blocks each, and Dowty also scored four serving aces.
Alyssa James led the Irish with 12 digs, and she also accrued five kills and one block. Renee Roach contributed a team-high 14 assists to go with nine digs and three kills. Allison Wujek had five blocks and a pair of kills, and Teresa Acock struck for seven service aces and chipped in six digs and one kill.
Hannah Leahy (five digs and one kill) and Ashton Montgomery and Claire Conley (three kills each) also lent a hand.
“We had some pretty intense games tonight,” Irish coach Hailee Cole noted. “Both teams played with high energy and excitement.
“Our girls played with great effort and really fought until the end,” Cole added. “Touchet was a very scrappy team and really made our hitters work for a kill.
“We still have a lot to figure out and clean up, but each game I know we’ll keep building and getting better. I already see a huge improvement.”
