UNION, Ore. — Mac-Hi’s Josie Lonai turned in a fourth-place finish during the Catherine Creek Scamper cross-country meet that was held on Friday.
Lonai recorded a time of 22 minutes, 18 seconds for 5,000 meters.
Susie Romero-Diaz was Mac-Hi’s next best finisher in the girls race. She was 22nd with a mark of 25:21.
Other Mac-Hi girls finishers were Kristi Childers (28th place, 25:47), Mie Blomberg (35th, 26:12), Cristian Lara (47th, 28:04), Maria Saldana (60th, 33:50), and Sabrina Glaeser (61st, 33:51).
“The girls ran very solid; they finished fifth overall,” Mac-Hi coach John Milleson said. “They’re continuing to improve. As a girls team, we did really well.”
On the boys side, Mac-Hi’s best performer was Jesus Saldana. He completed 5,000 meters in 20:05, good for 17th.
The best of the rest for the boys included Andrew Kain (24th, 20:52), Austin Cousineau (37th, 21:35), Cody Harmon (49th, 22:00), Raudel Garcia (56th, 22:21), Chandler Simpson (61st, 22:57), and Hunter Yensen (67th, 23:48).
”The boys race was very tough,” Milleson said. “Seventeenth was a very good finish for us. We’re really happy with that.
“In the junior varsity race, I had two boys in the top five (Mario Carrillo was third and Carlos Angel fifth),” Milleson said. “Those guys are moving up and fighting for varsity finishes. I think they may have gotten there (Friday).”
