WALLA WALLA — Registration is now open for a Sept. 29 seminar on what makes the “Blues” so beautiful.
The Blue Mountain Land Trust will host “Understanding the Forest AND the Trees” at 10 a.m. at the Bennington Lake picnic shelter. U.S. Forest Service silviculturist Carrie Spradlin will be the speaker.
Topics will include how elevation affects species composition, the role of fire in ecosystems and the economics of timber stands in the Blues. Afterward, participants may join a hike around Bennington Lake with Spradlin to identify various tree species and talk about their individual characteristics.
Preregistration before Sept. 27 is required. There is a fee of $10 for those who are not members of Blue Mountain Land Trust and $5 for members.
