Waitsburg-Prescott takes consolation prize at own tournament


WAITSBURG — Waitsburg-Prescott claimed the consolation bracket championship in its annual volleyball invitational that went down Saturday at both Waitsburg and Prescott High Schools.

W-P beat DeSales, 25-10, 25-22, lost to the Wa-Hi junior varsity, 25-21, 25-16, lost to Mac-Hi, 25-23, 25-23, downed Touchet, 25-20, 16-25, 15-13, and toppled the Colfax J.V. for the consolation title, 27-25, 25-21.

Waitsburg-Prescott is 4-3 overall.

In the title match, St. John-Endicott beat Dayton.

Stat leaders on the day for W-P were Rhiannon Chapman (15 kills, 34 digs, nine serving aces), Krystal Harris (40 assists, 23 kills, 42 digs, 13 serving aces), Adriana Benito (20 digs), Samantha Fedderson (24 kills, 38 digs, five blocks, six serving aces), and Stacia Deal (15 digs).

“Overall, we played pretty well,” W-P coach Angie Potts said. “We made a few position changes to improve some defensive challenges we had earlier in the week and the girls responded really well. We had a few moments that we let down and the close sets got away from us.”

W-P plays at Walla Walla Valley Academy on Thursday.
