PASCO — Chiawana and Wa-Hi traded goals in the first minutes of Tuesday night’s Mid-Columbia Conference girls soccer match, but Chiawana hung on to pick up a 3-1 victory over the Blue Devils.
Lexi Miller opened scoring for the Riverhawks in the first minute.
A minute later, Wa-Hi answered, as Maddy Aichele dumped in a cross from Brittany Gibbar for the equalizer.
But Chiawana scored the go-ahead goal just two minutes later, in the fourth minute, with Alyssa Conger picking up the point.
Hannah Bosch scored an unneeded insurance goal for Chiawana as the first half ended.
“We were playing a good team,” Wa-Hi coach Jesse Cruz said. “We were causing some problems for them, we just couldn’t connect. It’s all about mental toughness. We just fall into this rhythm that we couldn’t get out of it.
“We just have to pick up the pieces and move on and learn from this,” Cruz continued. “We’re not a bad team, we just have to clean up our mistakes and learn from our mistakes.”
The Blue Devils had three shots on goal in the loss.
Wa-Hi keeper Alyssa James had 10 saves.
