WALLA WALLA — DeSales picked up its first volleyball win of the season, defeating Southeast 1B opponent Touchet Tuesday night in straight sets, 25-18, 26-24 and 25-17.
“The girls did a great, great job tonight,” DeSales coach Hailee Cole said. “Every game they continue to improve — we’re not the same team this week as we were last week. I’m very proud of the improvement they have shown as individuals and as a team.”
The Indians fall to 1-3 on the season with the loss.
“It was a rough night,” Touchet coach April Miller said. “We were off our game. The girls had good moments, but we didn’t show up together as a team and that’s what we have to do. We needed a bit of mental toughness tonight, too. We will get it.”
The Irish (1-6) spread the offense around, with Hannah Leahy picking up six kills, an ace and four blocks; Allison Wujek six kills, two aces and a block; Alyssa James four kills, six aces, five digs and a block; and Ashton Montogmery four kills and a pair of digs.
Teresa Acock picked up 16 digs while contributing a kill and an ace.
Allesyn Lyons set nine assists while scoring three aces on 18-for-19 service and three digs.
Renee Roach had two assists, a dig, an ace and a kill; Elizabeth Ruthven a kill and two assists, and Claire Conley went 12-for-12 in sevice with an ace and two digs.
Kristen Warner led the Touchet offense with nine kills and 11 digs.
Cierra Jo McKeown had 10 assists and 14 digs. Chelsea Dowty and Rachel Miller each had 2 blocks
Morgan Cardwell served 19-for-19.
The Indians visit Tekoa-Oakesdale-Rosalia Tuesday, Sept. 25.
DeSales travels to Asotin Thursday at 6 p.m.
