WALLA WALLA — Chiawana defeated Wa-Hi in straight sets Tuesday night, beating the Blue Devils 25-14, 25-17 and 25-18 in a Mid-Columbia Conference volleyball match.
“It was a tough one,” Wa-Hi assistant coach Kim McDaniels said of the loss. “We never got started emotionally. We never really had the fire to win from the beginning.
The loss drops Wa-Hi to 0-5 on the season, and was a step back for the Blue Devils, who had been playing more competitively of late, despite not winning.
“They were a beatable team, so that was frustrating for us as coaches, because we’d seen improvement every match from them thus far,” McDaniels said.
Sierra Carmen led the offense with five kills. Maddy Doepker dug up 15 balls and Katie Green picked up 12 assists.
“I think they are (feeling pressure from being winless) at this point,” McDaniels said. “I think they’re frustrated from the loss tonight and they can see the lack of enthusiasm at times.
“I’m hoping that we can bring the fire and enthusiasm to win and be the best team,” McDaniels said. “So far we haven’t played that way.”
The Blue Devils visit Kamiakin Thursday at 7 p.m. in another MCC match.
