COLLEGE PLACE — Walla Walla Valley Academy opened its volleyball season Tuesday with a three-set victory over visiting Helix, 25-13, 28-26 and 25-16, in non-league play.
“I thought it was a good first match for us,” WWVA coach Scott Schafer said. “Overall we had 14 missed serves in the night, nine of them came in that second set. We weren’t sharp at all, but they pulled it through and came back and won.”
Amy Arnzen led the TigerScots (1-0) with seven kills and six aces on a 12-16 performance at the stripe.
“We’re a little bit lower on the hits than we normally do,” Schafer said, “but there were a lot of aces and serves-and-done, so maybe that accounts for a lot of the kills that we had in the past.”
Hannah Woolever blocked three shots and nailed five aces on 11-for-12 serving. Caroline Larson was 11-for-12 with four aces.
Helena Brown set up 14 assists and Megan Gregg slammed six kills.
The Knights host Waitsburg-Prescott Thursday at 6 p.m. in a Southeast 2B-1B interleague match.
