COLLEGE PLACE — Youngsters wanting to experience the thrill of flight will have their chance Sunday at Martin Airfield.
The Young Eagles program (www.youngeagles.org) will sponsor free flights for children and teens age 8-17 throughout the day. Flights will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 3 p.m., said Phil Kress, one of the event organizers.
Youths must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who will be asked to sign a waiver before takeoff. The flights will be conducted by local private pilots flying general aviation aircraft.
The Young Eagles event is being put on by the Walla Walla Chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association. The EAA’s Young Eagles program was started in 1992 and is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
According to the EAA, the Young Eagle flights are made possible through the generosity of EAA member volunteers, who have provided more than 1.7 million flights to youngsters to encourage interest in aviation.
