IRRIGON — The visiting Waitsburg-Prescott boys’ soccer team invaded Irrigon Knight territory and put 37 shots on goal while scoring six times.
The Knights responded with 30 saves from their keeper and two goals of their own.
The final was still 6-2, W-P.
W-P’s top scorer, Lino Diaz, struck for three goals at the 27th, 32nd and 71st minutes. The second Diaz goal was unassisted.
Jody Escalante and Aldair Escalante each assisted on one goal for Diaz.
Jesse Albarran assisted on a goal by Fernando Torres-Escalante in the 60th minute and scored his own in the 68th minute unassisted.
Luis Garcia scored the first goal for W-P of the game in the 24th minute and was assisted by Ernesto Valadovinos.
Irrigon scored their goals in the 35th minute and 76th minute.
The first Knight goal pulled them within 3-1, but they would get no closer.
W-P coach Jay Potts said the return of defender Carlos Sandoval and Jesse Albarron proved key.
“Carlos and Jesse are not quite into game shape yet but they’re getting there,” Potts said. “And they are important players to our team.”
W-P (3-1, 1-0 Southeast 2B) will play a league match at Dayton Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. .
