FOREST GROVE, Ore. — A first half goal by Pacific’s Antonio Madeddu led the Boxer’s to record their third shutout with a 1-0 win over Whitman on Saturday afternoon here at Lincoln Park Stadium in men’s Northwest Conference soccer action.
The only goal of the match came early. In the 12th minute, Mark Watson threw into Quinton Madeddu, who was inside the box. Madeddu’s shot found the back of the net for a 1-0 Boxer lead.
The Boxers put seven shots on goal but Whitman keeper Michael Bathurst came up with six saves to keep the Missionaries in the match. Whitman put up 19 shots, including 12 in the second half in an effort to equalize this one, but Boxer keeper Michael Summers turned away all seven Missionary shots that were on goal.
Leland Matthaeus led Whitman with five shots, two of those on goal. Andrew Clark fired three, and Jesse Mirman had two shots turned away by Summers.
The Boxers, with the shut out, improve to 1-2-0 in NWC play. Whitman drops to 0-2-1 in conference and travels to Newberg today for a 2:30 match against George Fox.
