WALLA WALLA — By the time Wa-Hi got it figured out here Tuesday night, it was too late.
Richland dominated the Blue Devils 25-8, 25-13 in the first two games of the Mid-Columbia Conference volleyball match, then completed the sweep with a 25-23 victory in the third game.
“They served us out of the gym in the first two games,” Wa-Hi assistant coach Kim McDaniels said of the Bombers. “We weren’t moving our feet and we struggled with our passing.
“We started moving our feet in the third game and did a better job of passing. There was a fire in the third game that wasn’t there in the first two games.”
Torri Crawford led the Blue Devils with nine kills and five digs. Katie Greene chipped in with eight assists and Jamie Quaresma had seven assists. Madison Doepker added five kills.
The loss dropped Wa-Hi to 0-7 in league play and 1-7 overall. The Blue Devils celebrated their first victory of the season Monday night when they defeated Walla Walla Valley Academy 27-25, 25-10, 25-10 on the Wa-Hi court. Crawford and Doepker had nine kills each in that winning effort, Maddy Sirmon followed with seven kills and Greene put up 15 assists.
“We really got our offense going, and that was good to see in a game setting,” McDaniels said. “I’m excited to see that continue.”
The Blue Devils will get that chance Thursday when they travel to Kennewick to face Southridge in a league counter.
