WALLA WALLA — At a special board meeting on Monday, the former board of directors for the Children’s Museum of Walla Walla handed off the keys to the building, noted former board President Damien Sinnott.

A transition team of six assumed leadership and assets of the museum and accepted six new board members, resulting in a board consisting of 12 new members, according to a press release.

Don Riley will serve as board president, Keith Crain as vice-president, Henry Savelesky as treasurer and Carla Houchen as secretary.

On Monday, Tara Crain was appointed interim director and Shayla Gallegos was asked to stay on as the museum’s manager.

A membership meeting will be Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. at the museum on the Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial Veterans Affairs Medical Center grounds, near the Poplar Street entrance. The transition plan and financial status, as well as future exhibits, will be discussed.

A grand re-opening is planned for Oct. 20.
