MILTON-FREEWATER — The Mac-Hi Pioneers volleyball team started off well here Thursday against the Umatilla Vikings, winning the first game 25-17.
But the Vikings were able to turn the tables on Mac-Hi, winning the next three games 25-17, 25-18 and 29-27 to win the match.
“It just wasn’t our night,” Mac-Hi coach Kaila Rodighiero said. “After the match, I thought about lineups that I could’ve changed or what I could’ve done, but it was already over.”
Avery Wells led the Pioneers with 10 digs and 10 kills.
Megan Reed was 12-for-13 serving with 10 kills.
McKenzie Fite was a perfect 18-for-18 serving, while Cheyenne Kessler was 13-for-15 with four kills.
“We played good defense, but we weren’t as aggressive at the net as we could have been,” Rodighiero said. “Umatilla was a real scrappy defensive team and I wish we could have played that way more.”
The Pioneers (3-4 overall, 1-1 GOL) play at home versus La Grande at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
