Group campaigns to change state's renewable power law

KENNEWICK (AP) — Citizens for Protecting Our Washington Energy rates launched Thursday in the Tri-Cities to campaign for a change in the state law that requires utilities to buy 15 percent of their electricity from renewable sources such as wind and solar by 2020.

Some utilities say they have plenty of electricity and it’s wastful to buy more just to increase the percentage from wind.

The group will ask the Legislature to amend the law.
