WALLA WALLA — Police in multiple jurisdictions are investigating a rash of fraud crimes allegedly committed by one man, Jason Taylor, who surrendered himself to a bail bondsman late last week.
According to Sgt. Matt Wood of the Walla Walla Police Department, Taylor, 33, who has no permanent address, allegedly issued personal checks on a closed bank account in Walla Walla, College Place, Yakima and Pasco to buy goods ranging from vehicles to construction related items.
“It’s my understanding on two separate occasions he purchased cars,” said Wood, adding Taylor also made purchases at Pro Build and Sun Rental in Walla Walla.
The Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office is also investigating a report filed by a Walla Walla woman who stated Taylor bilked her out of $3,000 and may have also tried to steal her tractor.
According to the Sheriff’s Office report, Taylor offered to have the victim’s tractor fixed for the cost of parts, and accepted a check for $3,000 and then took the tractor. The woman reported she was eventually able to recover the tractor, which had not been repaired.
Wood reported at least one car Taylor allegedly purchased with a bad check was also recovered.
Taylor is being held at the Walla Walla County Jail on investigation of five counts of unlawful issuance of checks, first degree theft, second degree theft and failure to comply.
