The Walla Walla Sweets baseball team is making plans for is second annual Sweets Downtown Block Party this summer.
The organization announced Thursday it is partnering with the Downtown Walla Walla Foundation for a June 30 celebration of baseball and Walla Walla.
A portion of Main Street, between Colville and Spokane streets, will be closed for the event in front of the Sweets Shoppe.
The party will run 5-7 p.m. and feature games, face-painting, food from downtown eateries, music and other family-friendly activities. Sweets players will sign autographs and be available for pictures with fans.
Last year’s block party took place as a celebration of the Sweets hosting the 2012 WCL All-Star Game. The festival atmosphere will be replicated this year with a few tweaks, according to an announcement from the organization.
“We had such great success last year,” said Sweets Vice President and General Manager Zachary Fraser in a prepared statement. “The chance to celebrate the fun that is Sweets baseball in the heart of our city’s historic downtown, and to partner with our great friends at the foundation in that effort to make it free for the whole community, is something we are thrilled to be able to be a part of. It will be a great way to jump-start the summer.”
