Softball powerhouse Adna sweeps Irish

WALLA WALLA — The DeSales Irish softball team was swept away in a doubleheader against Adna here Saturday, 2-1 and 7-2.

“We couldn’t get the hits at the right time in game one,” DeSales coach Russ Vera said. “We struggled to get consecutive hits to score runs.”

The Irish tied the game at 1-1 in the seventh inning and lost with a fielding error in the ninth.

DeSales scored its only run of game one with a Ali Zander single, pass ball and wild pickoff attempt at third by Adna.

An Irish fielding error in the ninth allowed Adna’s Cheyanne Gilberston to score from second base.

In the second game DeSales couldn’t provide enough run support for pitcher Kaylee Brown, an eigth-grader.

“Kaylee Brown pitched well enough,” Vera said. “We made three errors in the first four innings that allowed some of their runs to score. We didn’t support her (Brown) in the field or on offense.”

The Irish (5-3, 2-0 Southeast 2B) play again Tuesday at Mac-Hi junior varsity at 4 p.m.
