Donna Polumsky

1928 - 2013


Donna Jean Jeremiah Polumsky, 84, of Walla Walla, entered into eternal rest on March 16, 2013.

Donna was born to E. Ray Jeremiah and Lillian Rose Eaton on Oct. 20, 1928. After graduating from Waitsburg High School in 1946, Donna attended Washington State University for a year before attending the St. Mary’s Nursing School in 1947. Donna graduated from nursing school in 1950 and worked both at St. Mary’s Hospital in Walla Walla and Sutter Hospital in Sacramento, Calif., before finding her true passion at the Veteran’s Memorial Hospital in Walla Walla. From 1953-1985 Donna worked at the VA Hospital, where she helped start the Drug and Alcohol Program, served as head nurse on Wards 6 and 8 and spent 15 years as an assistant chief.

On March 5, 1951, Donna married her high school sweetheart, Richard A Polumsky in Reno, Nev. They enjoyed traveling around the United States in their motorhome, playing cards, attending Walla Walla High School and Whitman College sporting events and spending time with their grandchildren and great-grandchild. Donna was an active community member, volunteering for Meals-On-Wheels and serving as member of the Women’s Elk Club, NARFE, St. Mary’s Nurses Alumni and the Sunshine Club.

Donna is survived by her husband of 62 years, Richard Polumsky; daughters, Jeanine Proctor (Jim Proctor) and Teresa Maddess (Dwight Maddess); grandchildren, Koby Jenkins (Justin Jenkins), Robyn Maddess, Jennifer Maddess, Jeremy Maddess and Morgan Maddess; great-grandson, Riley Jenkins; sister, Verla Bushnell; and brother, Jerry Jeremiah. She was preceded in death by her parents, E. Ray and Lillian Jeremiah; and her brother, Raymond Jeremiah.

Donna was loved and respected by all who knew her. A memorial service in Donna’s honor will be held at Assumption Catholic Church on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at 11 a.m. She was a member of the church since 1952.
