WALLA WALLA — Walker Olis hit two home runs and Matt Delegato silenced the Whitman bats as the Pacific Boxers took the final game of the three-game Northwest Conference baseball series 11-1 Sunday afternoon at blustery Borleske Stadium.
After dropping Saturday’s doubleheader, Pacific bounced back to collect 13 hits in improving to 6-9 in the Northwest Conference and 9-18 overall.
The Whits stand at 7-11 in conference and 12-16 overall after winning their second NWC series of the season.
The wind that kicked up dust storms in the infield throughout the day did not bother the Boxers, particularly Olis, who drove a pitch off of Whitman starter Justin Weeks over the left-field wall to give Pacific a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Olis hit another solo shot to almost the exact same spot to kick start a four-run third inning that followed a three-run second and give the Boxers an 8-0 lead.
Olis had three round-trippers during the series to give him five for the year.
Pacific tacked on two more in the seventh and one in the eighth to extend its lead to 11-0.
Meanwhile, Delegato kept the Missionaries off balance during seven innings of work, giving up only four hits while striking out five and not allowing a runner past second.
The Missionaries manufactured a run in the eighth when pinch-hitter Jonny Chow singled up the middle, stole second and third and came home on Kyle Buckham’s infield grounder.
Weeks took the loss to drop to 3-5.
Delegato is now 5-1.
The Boxers move into a tie for fifth in conference with Willamette, a half-game in front of the Whits, who now travel to face Willamette in a three-game series Saturday and Sunday in Salem, Ore.
