BREMERTON, Wash. — Persistent rain caused the cancellation of the final round of the Northwest Conference Spring Classic golf tournament today, making the first day totals the official results and leaving the Missionary women in second place behind No. 4-ranked George Fox, who held a five-stroke lead after Sunday’s first round.

Any hopes Whitman had of catching the Bruins and pulling even in the standings before the conference championships in two weeks were quashed when officials deemed the course unplayable. George Fox and Whitman also finished first and second in the fall Classic, giving the Bruins a two-point advantage in the NWC standings.

The Missionaries recorded a first-day total of 327, led by Kelly Sweeney’s 78 and Catelyn Webber’s 79, setting up what had the makings of a dramatic final round. Sweeney placed third behind Kelsey Morrison of George Fox, who shot a 76 and medalist winner Chelsea Bayley of Whitworth who carded a 75 on the par 72 course.
