Terry R. Grindstaff of Milton-Freewater passed away on April 6, 2013, at the age of 68 years. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at 3 p.m. at the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steve Lyons officiating. Interment will follow at the Milton-Freewater Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in memory of Terry Grindstaff to the Walla Walla Community Hospice or the Providence St. Mary Cancer Center (Special Needs) in care of the funeral home.
Terry Ray Grindstaff was born on March 16, 1945, the son of Stacy and Eulala (Thomas) Grindstaff in Prairie City, Ore. He graduated high school in Spray, Ore., in 1963. Terry served in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1967. On Sept. 13, 1969, he married Barbara Cossitt. The marriage later ended in divorce in 1973. Terry worked as a logger in Oregon and Alaska until July of 1983. On March 29, 1999, Terry married Janet (Jan) Larson. She preceded him in death in 2011. Terry worked at the Washington State Penitentiary until his retirement in 2010. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had many friends and enjoyed their visits and outings.
Terry is survived by two children, Shannon Byerley of Helix and Robert Grindstaff of Lakeview, Ore.; step-daughters, Lana and Robert Brown of Milton-Freewater and Lori Larson; sisters, Linda Taylor of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Fay Miller of Roseburg, Ore.; brother, Jerry Grindstaff of Medford, Ore.; two grandchildren, Tyler Grindstaff of Monmouth, Ore., and Hannah Byerley of Helix; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
