RICHLAND — Hanford put on a hitting display here Tuesday and swept Wa-Hi 11-5 and 10-3 in a Mid-Columbia Conference baseball doubleheader.
The Falcons roughed up Blue Devil pitching for 29 hits in the two games, led by Isaac Benard, the son of former major leaguer Marvin Benard.
Benard clubbed a home run and added three other hits in the first game and tacked on three more hits in the second game, including a double. He finished the day with nine runs batted in.
“The bottom line is, we ran into a hitting buzz-saw,” Wa-Hi coach Keith Gradwohl said. “Hanford swung the bats really well. Benard is a left-handed swinger, and he had a great day.”
Zane Henderson was a bright spot for the Blue Devils with three hits in the first game and four on the day to raise his season batting average to .419. Two of Henderson’s hits in the opener drove in runs, and he scored after his third hit.
Zach Zehner had three hits on the day — a pair of doubles and an RBI single — and bumped his season average to .455. Daniel Lake had two hits in the nightcap, stole a base and scored one of the Blue Devils’ runs.
Hanford evened its Mid-Columbia record at 2-2 with the sweep and is now 5-5 for the season. Wa-Hi slid to 1-5 and 3-8.
The Blue Devils entertain Kamiakin Friday in a 2 p.m. league doubleheader at Murr Field. Hanford travels to Chiawana for a 4 p.m. Friday twin bill.
