Warriors salvage softball split with Columbia Basin

PASCO — Walla Walla used a pair of three-run innings in the nightcap to salvage a split with Columbia Basin here Tuesday in an NWAACC Eastern Region softball doubleheader.

The Warriors took the second game 6-4 after the Hawks had prevailed 7-0 in the opener behind the shutout pitching of Brenda Rodriguez, who scattered six hits over seven shutout innings, and a 15-hit offensive assault.

WWCC outhit CBC 9-6 in the second game, led by Kelsey Locke’s three singles and Brandy Knowles’ three-run home run, her third homer of the season.

Karly Hudelson had two hits in the second game and three on the day for the Warriors. She had one RBI and two runs scored in the second game.

The Warriors are now 6-8 in the East and 8-18 overall while the Hawks, who are in second place in the division standings but four games behind first-place Wenatchee, are 9-5 and 16-10.

Walla Walla is at Blue Mountain Friday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader and travels to Ontario, Ore., to take on Treasure Valley Saturday in a pair of division counters.

Columbia Basin plays a reverse schedule, visiting the Chukars Friday and the Timberwolves Saturday for East doubleheaders.
