KENNEWICK — Wa-Hi’s girls tennis team dropped a Mid-Columbia Conference match to Southridge here Thursday, 5-2.
Blue Devil Hailey Lewis picked up the lone Wa-Hi singles victory, defeating Olivia Landby 7-5, 6-3, in the No. 4 spot.
In doubles play, Wa-Hi’s Jaime Quaresma and Lexi Swenson teamed up at No. 3 to hand Suns Hannah Sanders and Rachel Nichols a 6-2, 6-2 defeat.
“I was really proud of the girls today,” Wa-Hi coach Keven Peck said. “They all played very hard and competed for every point. We always get a good run for our money with Southridge. We had a chance at winning, but couldn’t find the points we needed to pull it off. However, we gained some valuable experience that will help us down the road.
“In our singles, Hailey Lewis got her first win of the year in the No. 4 spot,” he said. “Hailey was very composed and confident in her win. It was good to see her hard work pay off.
“Our doubles highlight came with Jaime Quarsema and Lexi Swenson getting their first doubles win at the No. 3 doubles position,” Peck continued. “They both have been playing very well. I am looking forward to seeing how they fair at the Tri-City Invite this weekend.”
Wa-Hi plays at the Tri-City Invite today and Saturday.
