Gerald and Phyllis Harlan anniversary


Gerald and Phyllis Harlan celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on April 13. They wed April 13, 1948, in Walla Walla. They will also celebrate on the Oregon Coast with their daughters and their families.

They met in elementary school in Dayton. Phyllis moved to Elgin, Ill., in 1939 and came west after schooling, where she was reacquainted with Gerald. Phyllis’ maiden name is Literal.

Gerald was parts manager at Tumac Machinery for 38 years and retired from there in 1987. He enjoys reading, photography and landscaping.

Phyllis was assistant food service director at Whitman College for 11 years. She then worked for Walla Walla School District until retiring in 1989. Throughout these years she also taught piano lessons to almost 150 students. She enjoys playing bridge, knitting, playing piano and spending time with family.

Both are members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Walla Walla.

They have two daughters, Joan Cummings of Vancouver, Wash., Kris Schilperoort of Sunnyside, Wash.; and three grandchildren, Christopher Cummings and Reid and Claire Schilperoort.
