KENNEWICK — The Walla Walla High School softball team hit six home runs and split a Mid-Columbia Conference doubleheader against Kamiakin Friday, losing 9-8 and winning 17-16 in a pair of nine-inning games.
Wa-Hi’s Jacie McDaniels hit two home runs, one in each game, with the second being the game winner in the night cap.
Jordy Storm and Maddy Aichele added a round tripper each in game one.
In game two, Kenzie Hill and Maddie Smyth added long balls.
“The girls consistently put the bat on the ball. We were glad to hit some out,” Wa-Hi coach Kate Keyes said. “The wind was definitely blowing and it may have helped a little.”
Wa-Hi scored a run in the ninth inning of the first game to break a 7-7 tie, but the Braves answered with a pair of runs for the win.
With the help of the tiebreaker rule and a free runner on second base beginning in the ninth, the Blue Devils scored one run on a Kate Ferenz RBI single to pick up the split.
McDaniels hit a two-run homer in the second game in the ninth after the free runner was awarded on base. Kamiakin answered back with only one run in their half of the inning.
Wa-Hi (4-3 overall, 3-1 Mid-Columbia Conference) plays again Tuesday at Southridge at 4 p.m. for two games.
