BAKER — Mac-Hi picked up its first Greater Oregon League baseball win of the season here Saturday.
The Pioneers jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two-and-a-half innings of game two and held on for a 10-7 victory over Baker.
The Bulldogs took game one, 10-3.
Mac-Hi is 1-3 in the GOL and 7-4 overall.
Chase Copenhaver paced the Pioneers offensively with six hits in eight at-bats on the day including a pair of doubles in the nightcap. He had three hits in each game.
Dylan Shuler, who hit a solo home run in the fifth inning of the opener, also had three hits in the second game — two doubles and a triple.
Saul Ortiz, Jordan Leinbach, Tavis Hodgen, and Blake Yensen had two hits apiece in the second game for the Pioneers. Hodgen’s hits were two baggers.
“Chase had a great day,” Mac-Hi coach Mike Garcia said. “Our one-through-five hitters did a great job (in game two) of getting extra-base hits and knowing what task they had.
“I was pleased with the focus and enthusiasm the boys were able to play with (in game two),” Garcia said. “They bounced back to have that success they’ve worked so hard for.”
Mac-Hi has a non-league game at Waitsburg-Prescott on Tuesday.
