RICHLAND — Wa-Hi’s boys soccer team could not hold a two-goal, 3-1 second-half lead during Mid-Columbia Conference action here Saturday.
Richland scored two goals late in the second half to force overtime, then outpointed the Blue Devils 4-3 on penalty kicks to chalk up a 4-3 victory.
Wa-Hi tallied its first goal at the 15-minute mark when Gerardo Gomez found the back of the net off an assist by Francisco Sanchez.
The Blue Devils added another goal before halftime on an Alejandro Gutierrez penalty kick with 35 minutes gone in the match.
Gomez scored his second goal of the contest at 60 minutes, assisted by Ricardo Saldana.
“It’s been the story of our season,” Wa-Hi coach Mike Washington said. “We’re finding ways to not hold on to leads. We’re not having the luck to finish things off.”
The Blue Devils host Pasco Tuesday at 5 p.m.
