COLLEGE PLACE — The Hawks is an odds-on favorite to become the new College Place High School’s mascot.
The School Board is expected to vote on the official mascot and colors when members meet Thursday at 7 p.m. in the district’s board room, 1755 S. College Ave., above the Sager gym.
Superintendent Tim Payne said a team got together to help narrow down the mascot and colors for the newly established school, which will open with its first class of freshmen students in the 2014-15 school year.
Payne said the group recommended Hawks as a mascot, while the school colors will be navy and orange, like Auburn University and the University of Virginia’s colors.
Payne said the navy and orange will be the major colors while less dominant colors of white, black and silver could be incorporated.
“We went with the students on that one,” Payne said of the Hawks recommendation. Other mascot choices were the Raptors, Cougars, Broncos and Chargers.
The mascot and colors will be for the new high school only. Sager Middle School will remain the Raiders, represented by an eagle, with blue and gold colors.
During the Thursday’s meeting, the School Board also will consider approval of the eighth-grade class trip, and hear reports from the PTA, principals and the Friends program.
Approval of monthly bills and payroll, any new hires or resignations and the 2013-14 school year calendar are included in the consent agenda.
