Rassbach leads Wa-Hi rout of Suns

KENNEWICK — Ellie Rassbach homered twice Tuesday to lead Walla Walla High School to a pair of dominating Mid-Columbia Conference softball wins over Southridge, 16-1 and 23-6.

The Blue Devils collected 32 hits on the day, including three home runs. Catcher Kendsey Hill had the Blue Devils’ other round-tripper.

“We hit the ball well,” Wa-Hi coach Kate Keyes said. “They’re a pretty good defensive team, we just hit it where they weren’t. We hit the ball hard; we got the timing down of their pitchers and there wasn’t much they could do, I felt.”

Rassbach pitched a complete game in the opener, giving up one run on five hits.

She also pitched the final three innings of the second game without allowing a run.

Hill had seven hits on the day, while Jacie McDaniels had five.

“Kendsey Hill was solid all the way through,” Keyes said. “And obviously Ellie Rassbach, with a home run in each game, she just kind of helped herself out and kept things going. Jordy Storm did a great job of fulfilling her role as a leadoff batter and getting on base.”

This isn’t the first time the Blue Devils have exploded at the plate. On Saturday, Wa-Hi hammered six home runs and 36 hits in an MCC split with Kamiakin.

“We’ve been pretty consistent offensively,” Keyes said. “They’re hitting the ball hard and doing well at the plate.”

The Blue Devils improve to 4-3 and 3-1 in league and host Kennewick Friday for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
