Touchet downs Tri-Cities Prep, 13-2, as league twin bill looms

PASCO — With bigger fish to fry this weekend, Touchet maintained its focus here Tuesday in posting a 13-2 non-league softball victory over Tri-Cities Prep.

The Indians moved to 12-1 on the season and will play Weston-McEwen in another single non-league game Thursday in Athena at 3 p.m. Then it’s back to the Tri-Cities on Saturday for a pair of Southeast 1B District games against Liberty Christian that will wrap up Touchet’s league season. The doubleheader is slated for an 11 a.m. start in Richland.

And with a 6-0 league mark, the Indians are determined to nail down their first league championship since Colton began its run of four consecutive Class 1B state championships in 2009.

“We hear that Liberty Christian is a competitive team with a good pitcher, and it all goes by who is throwing the ball,” Touchet coach Gary Dorman said. “A split will give us the league championship, but we would like to win a couple and finish league play on a high note.”

Harlie Schaeffer pitched a six-inning complete game Tuesday, striking out six and walking three while scattering five hits. She allowed single runs in the Jaguars in the first and sixth innings.

But the Indians’ bats made sure the game was well in control.

Kristen Warner hammered a two-run home run in the second inning and added a second hit in the game. Courtney Creek came within a home run of hitting for the cycle as she drilled a triple, double and single, drove in two runs and scored twice; Makayla Bishop contributed a triple, two singles, two RBIs and one run; and Cierra McKeown had two singles, four runs batted in and one run scored.

Lexi Sturm had two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI, and Morgan Cardwell singled twice and scored a pair of runs.

“Tri-Cities Prep is a young team,” Dorman said. “They have no seniors and they are taking their licks in the learning process.”
