PASCO — Class 1B Touchet High School scored nine first-inning runs on 10 hits to jump on Class 2B Tri-Cities Prep early and take the 14-8 non-league victory.
“We came out on fire,” Indians coach Tim McKeown said. “They changed pitchers (in the third inning, with Touchet up 11-1), with a different speed, and it took three innings for us to figure it out.”
The Jaguars scored twice in the third, three times in the fourth and twice in the sixth, but couldn’t catch an Indians squad which plated two more in the sixth inning and a final run in the top of the seventh.
Elias Martinez, Cori Ochoa and Connor McKeown each had three hits in Touchet’s 19-hit effort.
“This is what my kids can do if we jump on a team, our confidence level goes through the roof,” coach McKeown said. “We’re finally putting the bat on the ball, and it was a good outing for us. It was a real good confidence boost.”
Octavio Preciado started for the Indians, going four innings before Ochoa came in to finish.
“Our pitchers were pitching strikes, and it sure makes a difference in the game,” McKeown said.
Touchet, now 9-4 overall and 4-2 in Southeast 1B play, head to Weston-McEwen for a non-leaguer at 4 p.m. Thursday before playing a league twin bill at Liberty Christian on Saturday.
