WALLA WALLA — The filing deadline is fast approaching for anyone seeking a place on the Walla Walla School Board.
Three of the five board positions are up for election this November. The filing period for the positions is May 13-17.
Board member Dan Hess recently said he will not seek re-election. Board member Cindy Meyer said she intends to file for another term. The board positions held by Hess and Meyer and up for election are for four-year terms.
“I would definitely like to serve one more term,” Meyer said in an email. “I have enjoyed my time on the board and feel there are a couple more projects in me.”
Board member Ruth Ladderud said she also intends to seek another term for the two remaining years of her position. Ladderud was chosen to serve on the board in 2012 after Jim Lehmann stepped down to focus on his family.
“I do intend to file on May 13 and hope the community will allow me to continue in this rewarding and challenging volunteer position,” Ladderud said in an email.
Any positions contested by more than two candidates will be decided in an August primary election, with the top two candidates of each race advancing to the November ballot.
Filing information is available through the Walla Walla County Auditor’s office.
