ATHENA — Weston-McEwen High School swept Sherman County Saturday in a Special District 6 baseball doubleheader, 3-2 and 8-1.
Sherman County scored in the top of the seventh of the opener to draw even at 2-2 with W-M.
The TigerScots answered in the home seventh as Joe Bauman worked a walk and scored on Lance Thacker’s walk-off single as W-M took the first game.
Lance Thacker threw a complete game four hitter and K.J. White and Cedric Hall each had two hits as the TigerScots completed the sweep with an 8-1 win in the nightcap.
Jerad Croswell led the W-M offense in the first game with two hits.
Burke finished his work on the mound in the opener allowing only one earned run while striking out seven. Lance Thacker went one better as he allowed no earned runs while striking out seven.
Justin and Lance were both awesome (on the mound),” TigerScot coach T. J. Haguewood said. “We didn’t swing it as well as we’ve been. Our defense in the first inning of both games was like a little league game, but then we settled down and played great.”
The TigerScots improve to 6-1 in league play and travel to Milton-Freewater Tuesday for a non-league battle with the Pioneers.
