Weston-McEwen earns two Special District 5 wins

ATHENA — Weston-McEwen High School’s softball team won 1-0 and 7-2 over Echo-Stanfield in two Special District 5 softball games here Saturday.

In game one Molly von Borstel pitched a one-hit shutout, striking out eight and walking none.

Keegan Shepard got an RBI single in the first inning to score the only run of the game.

Shepard had four RBIs on two singles in the nightcap and von Borstel pitched into the sixth inning. Jessica Lambert relieved to get the final five outs.

Heppner, the reigning Class 2A state champions, visits Athena for a doubleheader Tuesday at

4 p.m.

“We already lost two (games) up at Heppner this year,” W-M coach Jeff Griggs said, “so we’d like to get even this Tuesday at home.”
