WALLA WALLA – Four units at Washington State Penitentiary's West Complex are on lockdown today after multiple fights broke out Saturday night.

Prison spokeswoman Shari Hall said the fights occurred about 8 p.m. in the outside recreation yards and several prisoners received minor injuries. The cause of the fights is unknown at this time, Hall said in a release.

The West Complex units will remain on lockdown through the weekend while an investigation is conducted. Visits for the West Complex today are cancelled.

The four units contain close-custody inmates, which is the prison's second-highest level of incarceration. The prison houses about 2,200 prisoners in minimum, close and maximum security units.

Lets call it what it is and say that admin needs start paying attention to what the people that actually run the prison (Officers) have to say about there decisions to put them in harms way. If they would listen to the Officers these things would be cut to a minimum, but there the people that think they know what there doing yet have no idea what is actually going on and on top of that they have no ears to listen and obviously no brains!!!

Sounds like you work there. That's a tough job and one I couldn't do. Thanks for being there!

Sad to say but - have the guards watch from the upper level and when everything settles down allow the inmates out of the yard one at a time to go back to there cells. Then send in units to clean up the debris.
